Understanding Credits

Credits are the currency of RoundRobin. They power the feedback exchange — you spend credits to run tests and earn credits by giving feedback. Here's everything you need to know.

The three types of credits

Your credit balance is made up of three separate pools:

1. Purchased credits

Credits you buy directly. These are your "real money" credits.

  • Expiration: They do not expire. Buy them once and they're yours forever.
  • How you get them: Buy credit packs from the Buy Credits page.
  • Best for: When you need credits quickly and don't have time to earn them by testing.

2. Earned credits

Credits you earn by taking tests and getting your feedback approved. These are your "community" credits.

  • Expiration: They expire 12 months after they're earned. Use them or lose them.
  • How you get them: Take tests, give quality feedback, get approved by the test creator.
  • Best for: Building up a balance without spending money. The more you test, the more you earn.

3. Promo credits

Credits from promo codes, bonuses, or special offers.

  • Expiration: Varies — some promo codes have specific expiration dates, others don't.
  • How you get them: Redeem promo codes from the navbar ("Promo Code" option).
  • Best for: Free boost when you have a code. Keep an eye out for promotions.

How credits are spent

When you create a test and publish it, the credit cost is deducted from your account. The cost depends on the test type:

  • Pulse Check: 1 credit
  • Quick Look: 2–5 credits
  • One Task: 3–8 credits
  • Launch Round: 4–15 credits
  • Deep Dive: 6–30 credits

The exact cost within each range depends on the number of testers and questions you configure. You'll see the cost before you publish — nothing is deducted until you hit publish.

Which credits are spent first?

When you spend credits, RoundRobin uses them in this order:

  1. Promo credits — used first, since they may expire soonest.
  2. Earned credits — used second, since they expire after 12 months.
  3. Purchased credits — used last, since they never expire.

This ensures your most expiring credits get used before they vanish. You don't need to manage this manually — the system handles it automatically.

How credits are earned

When you take a test and the creator approves your feedback, you earn credits. The amount depends on the test type:

  • Pulse Check: ~1 credit
  • Quick Look: 2–5 credits
  • One Task: 3–8 credits
  • Launch Round: 4–15 credits
  • Deep Dive: 6–30 credits

The reward amount is set by the test creator when they configure the test. You'll see the reward on the test landing page before you start.

Important: Approval is required

Credits are not granted automatically when you submit a response. The test creator must review and approve your feedback first. This ensures quality — testers who give thoughtful, detailed feedback earn credits, while testers who rush through don't.

To maximize your approval rate:

  • Give detailed, specific feedback (see Tips for Great Feedback).
  • Narrate your thought process throughout the test.
  • Answer every question thoroughly.
  • Don't rush — take the time to engage genuinely.

Checking your balance

You can see your credit balance anytime:

  • In the navbar (the credit widget shows your total balance).
  • On your dashboard.
  • On the Buy Credits page, which also shows your credit transaction history.

The exchange in action

Here's how the credit ecosystem creates a virtuous cycle:

  1. You take someone's test and give great feedback.
  2. They approve your feedback → you earn credits.
  3. You use those credits to run your own test.
  4. Other testers take your test and give you feedback.
  5. You approve their feedback → they earn credits.
  6. The cycle continues, and everyone benefits.

This is why RoundRobin is called a feedback exchange — the community feeds itself.
